The village itself is in a quiet location close to Manifold Valley – which offers many cycling routes and footpaths for active visitors, there’s also pony riding about four miles from the cottage. For family days out, there is Ashbourne town just seven miles away, which has plenty of shops, restaurants and other attractions to keep everyone busy, along with a swimming pool and sports centre. If it’s convenience you’re after, you don’t have to travel far from the cottage to find local shops and pubs, the nearest is only a hundred yards or so.

    Stable Barn welcomes pets – although no more than two dogs maximum, and it has facilities for a toddler or baby, such as a pull out bed and a highchair. Bed and bath linen is included in the price, as is the central heating.

Cotton cottage is a modern retreat in a historic, natural setting, just yards from the owners farm – which is retired. National Trust land and Edale Valley are just a step outside the front door, as well as all the famous attractions in the area; the Blue John caverns, Peveril Castle, and Mam Tor – all situated in the scenic town of Castleton, only two miles away. Active guests and nature lovers can benefit from cycle hire, golf, fishing, summer swimming facilities and numerous footpaths stretching through the surrounding countryside.

    Food can be found less than half a mile away, and shopping, pubs, and restaurants are all a miles journey to the village of Hope.

    Cotton Cottage has oak beams throughout the sitting area, and a wood burning stove – with logs available for a small extra fee after the first load. Contemporary design and stylish furnishings are in every room and the entrance hall.

    Owl’s Roost boasts a ‘wood burner effect’ stove – which really emphasises that farmhouse feel – and the open plan sitting/dining area has beams running throughout. Although the owners welcome families and one pet, they advise that it’s not suitable accommodation for the elderly or infirm, due to its stairs and some low ceilings.
